ISRO NEWS: NEW CHAIRMAN

K. Radhakrishnan, who has been appointed Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, said on Saturday that by 2015 India would be ready for a manned moon mission.

Work on Chandrayaan-II was progressing. Efforts would be made to take the benefits of space research to the common man, he told journalists here.

Mr. Radhakrishnan received his appointment order while he was at the Sree Krishna Temple. The fax message was received at the devaswom board office in the evening. He had darshan and offered 'thulabharam' at the temple.

Dr G Madhavan Nair takes over as the President of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA)

Dr G Madhavan Nair, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) took over as the President of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) on October 11, 2009 during the General Assembly of the IAA in Daejeon, South Korea. Dr Madhavan Nair was the Vice-President of Scientific Activities of the IAA during the last four years.
The International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) with its headquarters at Paris, France is an independent organisation of distinguished individuals elected by their peers for their outstanding contributions to astronautics and the exploration of space. The IAA organises conferences and collaborates with other partner societies. Although the IAA has many connections to other similar organisations, it is distinctive as the only international academy of elected members in broad area of astronautics and space. IAA membership consists of individuals who have distinguished themselves in one of the fields of astronautics or one of the branches of science of fundamental importance for the exploration of space. IAA membership today totals about 1200 members from 85 countries. The IAA is an honorary society with an action agenda. The Academy has a strong scientific program this year with about 16 stand-alone conferences around the world.
The Academy was founded in 1960 by the leaders among the early space pioneers and had as Presidents: Theodor von Karman, Frank Malina, Stark Draper, George E. Mueller, Michael Yarymovych and Edward Stone. The election of Dr Madhavan Nair to the post of President of IAA is significant as he is the first Indian expert in space to become President of IAA.
Dr. G. Madhavan Nair is currently Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and Secretary, Department of Space of Government of India. He is also the President of Astronautical Society of India (ASI). He started his career as Avionics Project Manager in the first Indian launch vehicle project. He was responsible for design, development and operationalisation of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) the work-horse launch vehicle of India. He held various responsibilities in ISRO including Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (largest Centre of ISRO) and Director of Liquid Propulsion System Centre. He became Chairman, ISRO in 2003, and has 25 successful missions so far during his tenure. He operationalised multiple satellite launches using PSLV. His most significant contribution is the successful launch of India's first mission to the Moon, the Chandrayaan-1, which has earned tremendous international acclaim. He is conferred with 'Padma Bhushan' in 1998 and 'Padma Vibhushan' in 2009 by the Government of India. He was awarded honorary Degrees of Doctor of Philosophy/Doctor of Science by 16 Universities in India.

गुटखा और गंदी फिल्में भारतीय प्रतिभाओं को नष्ट करने की साजिश: डॉ. काकोली

गरिमामय ढंग से वैज्ञानिक दिवस सम्पन्न
रायगढ़ । स्कूलों में सेक्स एजुकेशन दिया जाना चाहिए या नहीं? क्या लड़कों और लड़कियों में होने वाला आकर्षण प्राकृतिक है? दोस्ती और प्यार में क्या फर्क है? क्या 12 साल की लड़की माँ बन सकती है?
               ऐसे ही दर्जनों सवाल वैज्ञानिक दिवस के अवसर पर आयोजित कार्यशाला में चिल्ड्रन्स साइन्स क्लब के सदस्यों और अतिथियों द्वारा पूछे गये। वैज्ञानिक चेतना के प्रसार के लिए बने चिल्ड्रन्स साइन्स क्लब द्वारा हर वर्ष 15 अक्टूबर को पूर्व राष्ट्रपति एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम के जन्मदिन के अवसर पर वैज्ञानिक दिवस मनाया जाता है। इस वर्ष नीलाचल भवन में इस अवसर पर आयोजित कार्यशाला का विषय था-"एडोलोसेंट एम्पावरमेंट ऐजुकेशन एण्ड माइण्ड सेट आफ सोसाइटी"। और कार्यशाला में प्रमुख सलाहकार के तौर प्रसिद्ध स्त्री रोग विशेषज्ञ और विषय विशेषज्ञ डॉ. काकोली मौजूद थी। उन्होंने बहुत ही धैर्य से बच्चों और किशोरवय बाल वैज्ञानिकों के सवालों का जवाब दिया। इसी क्रम में उन्होंने कहा कि गुटखा खाने की लत लगाने और इंटरनेट और अन्य माध्यमों से पोर्न फिल्में बड़े पैमाने पर भारत इसलिए भेजी जा रही हैं ताकि भारतीय युवा के मस्तिष्क और शरीर दोनों को सड़ा कर नष्ट किया जा सके। इसके पिछे किसी विदेशी साजिश की संभावना से भी उन्होंने इंकार नहीं किया। पूरे विश्व में सभी प्रमुख वैज्ञानिक संस्थाओं और अस्पतालों में भारतीय विशेषज्ञ ही अपनी सेवाएं दे रहे हैं। सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में भारत का डंका पहले ही विश्व में बज रहा है। बातचीत के क्रम को आगे बढ़ाते हुए डॉ. काकोली ने बच्चों को बताया कि शादी, सेक्स और आकर्षण जैसी बातें प्रकृति प्रदत्त हैं और इनके बारे में शर्म का अनुभव करना गलत है। हमारे समाज ने कुछ ऐसे नियम बना दिये हैं जिसकी वजह से बच्चों को बड़ों की दुनिया से अलग रखा जाता है परंतु आज इंटरनेट, मोबाइल और इलेक्ट्रानिक मिडिया के माध्यम से कंडोम और आई-पिल जैसे उत्पादों के बारे में अतिरेक पूर्ण विज्ञापन दिखाए जा रहे हैं जिससे ऐसा भ्रम होता है कि ये पूरी तरह सुरक्षित हैं। परंतु यह सब भ्रामक है। कार्यशाला के दौरान उपस्थित अंग्रेजी विषय के प्राध्यापक चारू चंद्र मिश्रा ने इलेक्ट्रानिक मिडिया द्वारा हिंसा और सेक्स के अतिरेक प्रदर्शन का मुद्दा उठाते हुए कहा कि इन्हें इस तरह प्रस्तुत किया जाता है जैसे कि ये जीवन की सच्चाई हैं। परंतु वास्तविकता में मनुष्य के जीवन में बहुत कम ऐसे क्षण आते हैं जब हिंसा से उसका आमना-सामना होता है। इसी बात को आगे बढ़ाते हुए डॉ. काकोली ने कहा कि बालमन बहुत कोमल होता है और नशीले वस्तुओं का व्यापार करने वाले उनकी इसी कमजोरी का फायदा उठाकर उन्हें पहले नशे का गुलाम बनाते हैं और बाद में उनका शारीरिक शोषण करते हैं। अंत में उन्होंने बच्चों को सावधान करते हुए कहा कि किशोरवय लड़के और लड़कियाँ दोनों ही कामुक प्रवृत्ति के बड़ों के हाथों शोषण के शिकार हो सकते हैं। उनके जीवन का यह समय पढ़ाई और कैरियर निर्माण के लिए महत्वपूर्ण होता है। इसलिए उन्हें अपने आपको एड्स और कम उम्र में गर्भधारण जैसे खतरों से बचाते हुए अपने पढ़ाई और कैरियर पर ध्यान देना चाहिए। साथ ही अपने पालकों को अपना सबसे विश्वसनीय मित्र बनाना चाहिए क्योंकि वही उनका बेहतर मार्गदर्शन कर सकते हैं। यदि आवश्यकता पड़े तो विशेषज्ञ चिकित्सक से परामर्श करने में भी नहीं झिझकना चाहिए ।
इस अवसर पर चिल्ड्रन्स साइन्स क्लब के सलाहकार वैज्ञानिक दिनेष षडंगी, सहा. प्राध्यापक सरोज कुमार और भौतिकी के व्याख्याता आर. एस. प्रसाद, ऊषा आठले हिन्दी की प्राध्यपक, चारू चंद्र मिश्रा अंग्रेजी के प्राध्यापक विशेष तौर पर उपस्थित थे। इस अवसर पर क्लब के अधिकांश बाल वैज्ञानिक सदस्य उपस्थित थे।
